Special Jobs we have to get filled:

1. Stroke and Turn Judges
2. 2-3 Parents to show up at 10:00am on Wed to learn how to put in the touch pads for the Mock Meet.
3. 2-3 Parents to show up at 8:00am Thursday morning to learn to clean the touch pads.
4. 2 Parents interested in learning how to run the console during the meet.  (The computer facing program that attaches to the pads)

Please let me know you are able to help in any way

2025 HS Swim Officials’ Training

Stroke and Turn Officials (see page 2 for detailed instructions)

  • You don't need any previous experience.
  • To become a high school stroke and turn official (who ONLY works their child(ren)’s local meets), they must attend one of the virtual stroke and turn classes below, and that’s it.

  • US Swimming officials will be exempt from taking the class, as long as their certification is current. Use this link to notify me.

Deck Referee and Starters (see page 2 for detailed instructions)

  • It should be someone who has officiated in prior years as a stroke and turn official (or an experienced US Swimming official)
  • Must take the deck referee/starter class, join the state association ($20.00) and pass the NFHS Swim Officials test ($20)

  • I will waive the class for USA Swimming certified officials whose referee and/or starter certification is current, but they must still take the test and join the association (for the starter or deck referee).

USA Certified Stroke and Turn Officials who only want to stroke and turn at local meets, use this link to submit your credentials so I can add you to the list

If you plan to be a Deck Referee or Starter this season, you must complete the following:

  1. Register as a varsity swim official on the SCHSL / Arbiter website.

https://app.arbitersports.com/registration/official?org=455&role=3&GroupID=101800

When registering, please select the correct “District” where you will officiate so the District Coordinator will get your information. The Rock Hill/Fort Mill area is “District 2.” https://schsl.org/swim-officials

Completion of registration costs $40 and requires a satisfactory background check. The Districts are listed here: https://schsl.org/swim-officials.

You have until August 30th to register with Arbiter.

  1. Attend a Deck Referee / Starter Training

On the previous page, you’ll find your virtual training options and participation links.

  1. Complete a RULES / Stroke and Turn Exam with a score of 80% or better.

The exam is open book but you must complete registration before taking the exam. Note: the exam will be at this link, https://schsl.arbitersports.com/front/101800/Test, but the exam is not yet available (should be available after 8/1 and you have until 9/15 to complete - but you will not be able to serve as a Deck Referee or Starter until you’ve completed the online exam, so do not wait until the final week). If you’ve never taken an NFHS swim exam, my suggestion is to find a previous NFHS swim rule book and open it on a separate tab. That way, you can easily reference it during the exam

If you plan to be a Stroke and Turn Judge Only (and only work local high school meets), you must complete the following:

Attend a stroke and turn officials training (see the previous page for the list of training dates/times).
